Communication Dynamics

Master Closed-Loop Communication and Structured Handovers (SBAR/RSVP).

Simulation Brief

You are the lead clinician in a high-pressure environment. You must manage a deteriorating patient by directing your team and then escalating care to a specialist.

Key Objectives:
  • Phase 1: The Crisis (Team Dynamics)
    • Allocate tasks specifically (avoid ambiguity).
    • Close the loop: Listen to read-backs and confirm.
    • Correct errors immediately.
  • Phase 2: The Handover (Escalation)
    • Synthesise data from the patient notes.
    • Choose a framework (SBAR or RSVP).
    • Transmit only critical information (signal-to-noise ratio).
